Ladies and gents the Pitch Docs are back for another season! We know you've been eagerly awaiting the return of the blog posts so, eager to please as we are, they've also made a return! Shams is a very tough act to follow so we'll do our best uphold the quality of the posts form yesteryear.
Much has changed off-field since the last blog post. As you may or may not know Shamsul, Rob and Andrew who have been the driving force behind the club for the past couple of years handed over the reins to a new and inexperienced crew in myself, Hassaan, Jordan and Nilay.
There were also many changes on the field with a healthy injection of new talent into the Docs' squad. Hassan Sher, Amad Ione, Ahram Ione, Krishna Balaji, and Nick Magan all made their debuts against the Albany Creek Hawks.
Whilst everything surrounding the club changed, our performance against Albany Creek fairly well kept to our proud PDCC tradition. Decent bowling performance and... an average batting performance.
However, it's a new season and it's not the time to focus on negatives. Led by our new captain, Hassaan Shahid, in the C1 North Sunday comp, we elected to bowl first and play to our strengths. There was lots of talk about a strong bowling line-up and boy was it true. The fast bowling cartel of Hassan Sher, Amad Ione, Sajid Mungol, Arham Ione, and Nilay Jain rivalled the quality (and the hype) of the South African or the Australian bowling attacks. Hassan Sher (2/18) was very sharp with his express pace and his distinct love of the bouncer. Amad Ione (2/7) his opening partner, was also very accurate, barely bowling a ball where the batsman could confidently leave or play an attacking shot. They were ably backed up by Arham Ione (1/18) and Sajid Mongol (2/27) as first change bowlers. Finally, PDCC veteran Nilay Jain showed us all his McGrath-esque qualities with very neat figures of 1/7 off 4. Some solid overs of spin from Krishna Balaji, Nick Magan and Raja Chinthamuneedi.
Dropped chances, a very good 51 in the middle of the innings by an Albany Creek veteran and a great innings by S. Undries (51) took the game away from us. Albany Creek - 9/162
Batting-wise, we were very much up against a class bowling line-up. Barely a loose ball was bowled. Stumps were attacked. 4th and 5th stump lines were bowled. We opened with PDCC veteran Raja and debutant Arham Ione. Both fell early to their respective openers, and each made 4. We knew we were in trouble. 2/10 off 4 overs. Pham and Amad Ione came and went. 4/27 off 10. Enter Hassan Sher, whose natural bullish aggressive game provided a much needed counter attack. A well-made 37 with a couple of 6s to demonstrate his hitting ability. Some may say he's our KC replacement this season. Others have said he's even better.
All in all, we were bundled out for 88 in the end. A big loss. However, plenty of positives to take to the next game. Expect a much improved performance next game! And thanks for getting this far in the post, loyal PDCC fan! As a
reward, I'll let you in on a potentially true secret. We're going to win the premiership this year.
