On a day where my AFL team lost with 30 seconds left on the clock, my NRL team were upset by a team I regularly forget exist and my soccer team lost what slim hope there was of winning the premier league COming in, there was one shining light in the day, my cricket team.

It didn’t start off in the best fashion when The Doctors resumed on 1/69. Shahid was knocked over on the first ball of the day. It got worse when Prakash then followed soon after. It was 3/76 and it looked like a boilover that PDCC had become familiar with last season. But then it got better. A lot better.

As the grey clouds circled, both literally and metaphorically, up stepped Kanishka Chaudhary. This man knew no fear as he pierced his first delivery down the ground for a boundary. Then he did it again, and again. The Spartans who had formed a ring field, confident they could contain the damage, were now on the back foot as they pushed men back.

Now all the while, down the other end was a man I haven’t yet mentioned. A man that was there last week, that was there first thing this morning. He had seen the carnage and he was ready to join in. I should probably say his name at this point. This man was the vice-captain, Gus Douglas. Together the two amassed a colossal 226 runs together, the highest in PDCC history.

However, this wasn’t without an anxious 45 minutes after the Spartans must have prayed to their Roman gods who let the gates opened. Tea was taken and time was spared and the two returned to business as usual.

Returning from the intermission the two were both on unlucky 87 and it was a toss of the coin either way to who would reach the milestone first.

It happened to be Douglas who reached his ton first with a drive that was rolling across the ground before taking an unfortunate bounce to nutmeg the poor fielder. In the celebrations, the injured player was missed. However, PDCC happened to have team medico/club president Dr Morgan on site who offered medical support and the opponent was sent to hospital to exclude any sinister injury.

In the meantime, it was Chaudhary’s turn to bring up his century. But this would prove to be near the end of the glorious stand as KC was dismissed shortly after on 109 (the fourth highest score in PDCC history). Douglas soon followed compiling 156 (the highest individual score for PDCC), before the middle order had a bit of fun. Masters, in his first game in the Gold and Blue, picked up 21, Summers 20, and Gupta 27. The latter was the final wicket to fall as the Doctors finished on 402 (the highest total score in PDCC history) after 78 overs. With 15 minutes left in the day, the captains decided to call it a day and that was the end of that. My faith in sporting teams I support temporarily restored. Tune in next time to see which teams emotionally cripple me for another week.
